How did Jefferson know ???

October16

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the
brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement:

”This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to
gather at one time in the White House with the exception of
when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

Especially read the last quote from 1802.
When we get piled
upon one another in large cities, as in Europe,
we shall become as corrupt as   Europe  .
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist
when you take away from those
who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every
generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save
one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for
Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the
pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me
that most bad government results from too much
government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred
the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the
people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is, as a last resort, to protect themselves
against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be
refreshed from time to time with the blood of
patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with
his taxes the propagation of ideas which he
disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

Thomas  Jefferson said in 1802:
‘I believe that
banking institutions are more dangerous to
our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow
private banks to control the issue of their
currency, first by inflation, then by
deflation, the banks and corporations that will
grow up around the banks will deprive the people
of all property - until their children
wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers
conquered.’

I WISH WE COULD GET THIS OUT TO EVERYONE  !!!

I’ll do my part ! Copy and send this to your friends.

The Gray-Haired Brigade

October4

A friend sent this to me and I would like to share it with all of you, especially the younger generation who will be able to soon vote for THEIR future.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are “baby boomer” getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We have worked hard, worshipped our God and grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being “over the hill” and that is probably true.

But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration. In school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, ten-cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don’t know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and out-dated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II and fought in Korea and VietNam. We can quote the Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn’t fight for the Socialist States of America, we fought for the “land of the free and home of the brave.” We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the words to the Star Spangle Banner, America, and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read about in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent. It was the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the “Hope and Change” which in reality was nothing but “Hype and Lies.” You have tasted Socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don’t like it after all.

You make a lot of noise but most are all too interested in their careers and “Climbing the social ladder” to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. It appears that we care more about our grandchildren than some care about their children. Many of those who fell for the “great lie” in 2008 are now having buyer’s remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies. Now you’re paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom. This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.

Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Gray Haired Brigade is here, and in two months we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we’re going, and in November we’re going to the polls by the millions. This land does not belong to the Muslim in the White House or to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. It belongs to We the People, and We the People plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren.

So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the Gray-Haired Brigade.

George Washington said:
“The price of freedom is constant alertness; constant willingness to fight back…there is no other price…”

The little things in life

September28

My granddaughter's 7th Birthday

The family was reminded of how important the little things are. Chaney’s second favorite birthday gift… a tape dispenser (her dad knew she’d love it). She even took it to school so the other kids could use it.

Grab a Grandma and Give Her A Hug

September9

by Teresa Bell Kindred at NanaHood

In 1978 President Jimmy Carter declared the first Sunday after Labor Day National Grandparent’s Day. In 1978 I was in my early 20’s. I probably didn’t even notice his declaration, but I always loved and respected my grandparents.

When I was young I thought everyone grew up with a mom and a dad in the house and loving grandparents right down the road. Then I went away to college and quickly learned that wasn’t the case.

One of the goals of NanaHood is to connect the generations. It really does take a village to raise a child and parents need all the help and support they can get. Another goal is to remind grandparents (and moms and dads) of the positive difference a supportive grandparent can make in the life of a child. In my case it was my maternal grandmother who taught me so many life lessons with her kindness, gentle spirit and patience.

If you are lucky enough to still have your grandparents (near or far) go visit them if you can. If not, call them this Sunday or send a card. I know they will appreciate it!
Help a Nana celebrate NanaHood. It really is grand to be a grandparent!

What if

“Obama’s worst nightmare….an educated voter”?

Still sitting…

August26

This 75-80 degree weather is so wonderful. More sitting on the porch. I feel like I should be doing something, then I think, heck I worked 35 years, now I deserve to just sit if I want. I might have stayed in bed a little later today but all of a sudden I heard this noise that almost knocked me out of bed. The city has a crew of people who go around and trim the trees off the electric lines and then they push all the limbs into a chipper. Ever sat right next to a truck chipper????? Gosh what a noise. They sure thinned out my really good shade tree that shades the house from the rising sun. My poor tree was so thick and pretty. I said WAS.
What is with the President and his admin? Today I hear they let thousands of illegals, that they had caught and were going to trial, GO. (He is desperate for the Mexican vote). They are not going to give some of our military overseas a chance to vote. Obama wants to be a celebrity, wants to vacation and fly around in AF1. He doesn’t care about the average person unless they are clapping for him and wanting to shake his hand. Do you think the people who voted for him are really happy with what he hasn’t done so far? Every day it is something else. This administration and congress just do as they please. Someone needs to stand up and say “we are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore”.
You know seniors don’t need to have to worry about their medicals, their doctors, their money, their country! I have really excellent health care and retirement but there are so many who don’t.

Friday the 13th, ‘the most widespread superstition’

August13

Like many human beliefs, the fear of Friday the 13th (known as paraskevidekatriaphobia) isn’t exactly grounded in scientific logic. But the really strange thing is that most of the people who believe the day is unlucky offer no explanation at all, logical or illogical. As with most superstitions, people fear Friday the 13th for its own sake, without any need for background information.
The superstition does have deep, compelling roots, however, and the origins help explain why the belief is so widespread today. In this article, we’ll look at some of the interesting stories behind this unluckiest of days.
The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations said to date from ancient times, and their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year (there happens to be only one such occurrence in 2010, in the month of August) portends more misfortune than some credulous minds can bear. According to some sources it’s the most widespread superstition in the United States today. Some people refuse to go to work on Friday the 13th; some won’t eat in restaurants; many wouldn’t think of setting a wedding on the date.

Welcome to my personal blog.  I decided I wanted to give my thoughts and words to the world and hope they have some meaning and memories to grandparents (and others) everywhere. I am retired (35.5 years with the …..), mother of two and grandmother of five. My maiden name was Scaling and I was married to Tilford N. Tucker (see post “the words say it all” ).  I raised and put two great children through college so I have a lot of experiences to build on. After retirement I became a webmaster (working for my son) for some of our family websites. Here is my “about me” page.
Have a fun time and a great day, bookmark this site and come back often!!!!
