Welcome to the Ann Tucker Blog!

Welcome to my personal blog. Thanks to my son for building this neat blog page. I decided I wanted to give my thoughts and words to the world and hope they have some meaning and memories to grandparents (and others) everywhere. I am a retired civil servant (35.5 years with the Department of the Air Force), mother of two and grandmother of five. My maiden name was Scaling and I was married to Tilford N. Tucker. I raised and put two great children through college so I have a lot of experiences to build on. After retirement I became a webmaster (working for my son) for some of our family websites: ShaggyDuck
Have a fun time and a great day, bookmark this site and come back often!!!!

A granny post, I guess

I think I have writers or rather bloggers block.  I can't think of anything to write about.  Have you ever wondered what people would really like to read about?  In the blogs I read, I have a blog I like because she is so much like me and is so down to earth.  Another because she really has a sense of humor,  one that has an interesting life.  My son's because I always find out something interesting about him,  even after all these years.  There is one that has moved mostly to Facebook so I read him there, one who writes about things he really likes and another that has sort of quit writing, where are you?  There are several that are so creative and have the prettiest and neatest ideas.  It makes me sad that I can't do those things to my house anymore or the holiday crafts, but I do like to look.  One young mother does such good things for the children in Africa.  Ah to be young, healthy and enthusiastic again.  I know I have far more blogs that I follow than I can really do justice to.  I try to read them all each day but there are days........

Have you seen those Topsy Turvy Tomato planters that hang, on tv?  Well those didn't work for me or anyone I know but let me tell you we were at Atwoods (a farm and home store) and in their plant section they had some tomato plants growing out of these black bags and they were HUGE.  I have never seen such great looking tomato plants!!   They can't help but produce.   The ones on tv,  you had to add the soil, and the tomato plants and then water and hope for the best.  These are ready for water and sun and that's it.   They were only $12, about half what the tv ones were.  I sure wanted one but I really don't have a convenient place to hang it and I already have a bunch of  tomato plants in the ground.  Don't you just love home grown tomatoes (bacon and tomato sandwiches)  hmmmmmmm!!

Am watching HGTVs new show Selling New York and I enjoy seeing all those million dollar apartments.  One soap stars parents are having trouble selling their apartment,  $5.65 million.....so this realtor brought in a "spiritual intuit"- to cleanse the negative energy out of the apartment.  He waved a deal with some  burning incense and waved some flowers around, held his hands to the front door, said a prayer or two and said the apartment would sell soon but they will rent for $25,000. a month for a while first.    Duh - aside from spending millions on a home, how about spending $25K a month for rent?  Maybe I need one of those guys just to bring energy in.

More thoughts on nothing

Rose bushes..I make notes on this little text edit form on my computer so I can finish when it's time for a post.  Only thing I sometimes can't remember why I wrote what I did, like Rose Bushes!!

Remember I recently mentioned my medicine and taking my Fish Oil capsules.  Well I bought this huge bottle the last time I was at Sams.  Says one is equal to 3 so that was great.  When I opened them and started to fill my pill box I noticed they were cloudy and I wondered if they were bad and had passed the use date.  I pulled the bottle out again and looked it over to see what the date was and who I might call when I saw my error.  These are "enteric coated - no fishy after taste"  Hurray..Sure glad I didn't throw them out.

I was wanting something to hide my garden hose when it is in the front yard.  I won't leave it on the grass and hate it laying on the driveway.  The holder is back in the middle of the carport and I don't want to have to reposition it so I don't fall over it so I needed something to hang the rest on after I water.  Finally found something at Atwoods Farm and Home.  A metal thing you stick in the ground and hang the hose on.  Only $9.99 so good deal.  Then we went to Lowes and I saw one of those big metal bowls that you roll your hose in which was what I really wanted but there are $24.95 so guess I will stay with what I have.

Does anyone but me wonder what is going on with all the earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions?  Do you think God is mad at us?  Maybe he is just mad at the Democrats and the rest of us are caught in the middle.  Can you imagine being stuck in an airport in Europe and not able to get home?  I have been in a lot of European and Middle Eastern airports and I would not want to sleep on their floor in front of everyone.  Also the last time I was in a Paris airport restroom they wanted a tip to give me one section of toilet paper...duh.

I saw this and thought it sounded good:
Hamburger Pie
1 unbaked pie shell
1 lb extra lean hamburger
1 can tomato soup
1 pkg shredded cheese
garlic sale, salt and pepper to taste
Line pan with shell, cook hamburger til done
add soup and seasonings
Simmer for about 5 minutes
pour in pie shell
cover with cheese
bake at 325 for 25-30 min
let sit 10 minutes before serving

P.S.  Garage sales were awful today (1 bird house), guess because it has been sprinkling and slow rain for two days.

It's already Wednesday...

Have you ever been curious what a certain house looked like inside if you see it is for sale?  Go to, http://www.trulia.com/  put in your town of choice and most homes will have photos of the inside.  A very interesting site to entertain you for a few minutes.

I got an email wanting me to sign to get a sale site here in our town from an Air Force Base person.  I see that there are lots of towns already listed and one might be right near you.  It is sort of like a Craigslist and I understand you can bargain with the seller.  You can be a buyer or a seller. Check this out if you have not been to this site before:   http://bookoo.com/.

The raccoon and duck are gone, now it will be the invasion of the neighbors cats.  There are two sets of 5 kittens in boxes on her porch.  They are starting to leave the box and wander down the steps.  The last three years those people let their cat have kittens and let them run all over the hood.  It smells of cat pee under my hedge and my renter says her flower bed smells the same.  Our best local plant store does not plant rue anymore and doesn't carry Coleus Canina but she said use cedar mulch and on the internet I found a place that said use moth balls.  I will let you know what happens.

A beautiful day and I have no plans so I could do what I wanted.  Then my car made this banging noise when I took my foot off the brake.  Off I went to the shop with my lunch in hand that I had picked up.  I lost track of what was wrong when he got to almost $800.   The springs in my suspension are worn out (my car is 10 years old) or something and they must order them from company (Toyota).  It's not so much the cost of the parts as the cost of the time to put them in (5 hours).  Then later I need to get new struts I think and that is another 5 or 6 hundred.  Well that shot my day..and my week and the month.  On top of that I am only supposed to drive it if I must.  Parts take 4-5 days to come in.  Oh yes, my Chinese carryout was cold by the time I got home - ate it anyway.

Classic classifieds

In search of a Dumpster Diving ride/partner

Just moved to Tulsa and would like to find some one to trash pick with. I don't drive which can make the whole thing a little difficult for me, but I have been doing it for several years, if some one wants to go that has not been before, or am another pair of hands for someone that doesn't mind me coming with.

Just an ordinary Wednesday

The bottom just fell out of the thermometer from in the 70s to 40s.  Brrrrrrrr  Just got a warning:  * LATE TONIGHT & THUR MORNING: TEMPS WILL DROP TO 25 TO 32 DEGREES. THESE FREEZING TEMPS COULD HARM BLOOMING & NEWLY GROWING VEGETATION IF STEPS ARE NOT TAKEN TO PROTECT THE PLANTS.
Storm clouds around all day.  Big dark, rolling ones.  No rain tho.

Mickey D's upped it prices on the cost of a sausage, egg and cheese McMuffin - got one yesterday and it was $2.42 (when I complained she said 19 was tax.  This is the second time they have upped the cost of that item in the last year.  Guess I will start making my own or go there and get the sausage, cheese mcMuffin (from the dollar menu) and bring it home and put my own egg on it.  That would drop my cost at MD to $1.08.  That is ridiculous charging 1.23 for an egg!!!  (as is the 19 cent tax)  Can you imagine what it will be when we have to start paying the "value added tax" on everything!!!!

Don't get weepy on me, but Daisy Duck was finally captured by animal control and will be relocated to the lake at Government Springs Park with other ducks of her kind.  Bye Daisy, have a good life!  Maybe I should have kept Daisy around and cooked free duck eggs for my mcMuffin!
