Welcome to the Ann Tucker Blog!

Welcome to my personal blog. Thanks to my son for building this neat blog page. I decided I wanted to give my thoughts and words to the world and hope they have some meaning and memories to grandparents (and others) everywhere. I am a retired civil servant (35.5 years with the Department of the Air Force), mother of two and grandmother of five. My maiden name was Scaling and I was married to Tilford N. Tucker. I raised and put two great children through college so I have a lot of experiences to build on. After retirement I became a webmaster (working for my son) for some of our family websites: ShaggyDuck
Have a fun time and a great day, bookmark this site and come back often!!!!

Don't Be A Landlord....

Well I guess I need to start a journal on my renters. I rent my mom's house which is right next door. I had what I thought was a good lease stating that the renters need to take care of the yard, mow the grass and keep it neat and clean. The renters I have in now signed the lease, swore they would take care of the yard and yadda, yadda. I also mentioned that our houses were built in the l930s and have small driveways and only inches between the drive ways. First off they came with a van and a huge pickup truck. Then came the boat on a trailer which was soon replaced with a pontoon boat (the largest one they make) and then a flat bed trailer. There was so much in the driveway that the last vehicle was over the sidewalk. During the summer they did not water the grass and the grass died. My son in law tilled the yard and we spread seed and it started to grow very fast. Then they didn't water that and the grass died again. I have decided to not give them the deposit back until I pay for the yard to be sodded (after they move). Several times when we did have grass my daughter mowed it or I had to ask them to. Recently they filled up their two trash cans, left them sitting at the corner of the front of the house where they also left some tires, some trash and the lawnmower (the lawnmower because there was no room for him to take it down the driveway to put it in the garage. He had too many vehicles parked in the driveway and they were hanging over my side.) After three weeks of not taking the trash to the curb I had to ask them to do something about it. He put it in the back of his pickup and left it there for another week. After I mentioned we'd get mice he finally dumped it somewhere. Now we have the tires, trash etc and I left another note to please clean up the mess. How can people live like that? They had moved from another house in town to my rental so I would imagine that landlord had them move. When they signed the lease they said they had a small dog and a cat. They do but then a few weeks in and they had another dog. They have had a friend living there also for a few weeks. He may be gone now, I am not for sure. I hate to be a nosy landlord but you know my property is important to me. It is no wonder people hate to rent to anyone. Out of 5 renters I have had 2 that were nice and kept things looking good.

I just cannot imagine dealing with renters. There are a few houses in my neighborhood that are rented but most are owned. You can always tell the rental houses. The one nearest me is demolished. Windows are broken out, yard overgrown, and about six dogs in the house! I would evict them and take them to court. The landlord completely redid the house before he rented it with new carpet, paint, appliances, etc. Now, it looks like a shack. I guess some people enjoy living like slobs. I am so sorry about your property. I hope you get it all worked out.

People should consider themselves lucky to be living in a house and take pride in their surroundings. Is it laziness or what?

We're not asking anyone to be Martha Stewart, just don't be a pig, right?

Ok - I have retyped this several times. I am so sorry you are having to deal with that. When I rented many years ago, my landlord hated to see me move. He said he had never had a tenant that took such good care of the property. I can't understand how some live the way they do. I will stop now before I get carried away about some peoples' total lack of respect of others & their property.

Hey! I totally agree with renters.. And it's because of people like that, that it ruins renting with a pet. I have found that renters destroy property, not pets. It's a shame tha theres no respect. I'm working with an amazing Landing Page company. Ad2Action.com can help you build, promote, and earn, using your own affiliate landing page. Keep up on the amazing work!

We were landlords once too, and it was horrible! They left town without paying the rent AND they sold OUR furniture at a yard sale before they left town (I had part of it furnished). Can you believe that???
I would never be a landlord again for any amount of money. It is awful!
