Welcome to the Ann Tucker Blog!

Welcome to my personal blog. Thanks to my son for building this neat blog page. I decided I wanted to give my thoughts and words to the world and hope they have some meaning and memories to grandparents (and others) everywhere. I am a retired civil servant (35.5 years with the Department of the Air Force), mother of two and grandmother of five. My maiden name was Scaling and I was married to Tilford N. Tucker. I raised and put two great children through college so I have a lot of experiences to build on. After retirement I became a webmaster (working for my son) for some of our family websites: ShaggyDuck
Have a fun time and a great day, bookmark this site and come back often!!!!

I Got a Kindle2

I finally broke down and got myself a Kindle 2: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation) (this is the new improved Kindle). I was on a waiting list with Amazon when I saw the new one had come out so I contacted them and they moved me to get the new one and I have it. It is so neat!!! It is almost paper thin, I can enlarge the print to suit me and I can take it anywhere I would take a book to read (except I wouldn't take it to read in the bathtub - for sure!) It is a little expensive to drop in soapy water. I picked a book I wanted to read, it downloaded in 60 seconds, wirelessly, and I was ready to read. If you are an avid reader this is just what you need. It will hold over 1500 books and you have over 240,000 books plus U.S. and international newspapers, magazines, and blogs to choose from Amazon.com. If I get lazy it will even read to me. Best seller releases are only $9.99 (none over $9.99) and older books are less. I you realize hard backs are usually around $25.00 and to wait for a paper back takes time, then they are expensive --this is a deal. There is a keyboard so you can make notes. You can browse the store on the Kindle and all you need is have an account with Amazon and they will charge it automatically. I am waiting for the book cover to arrive. A cover did not come with it so if you order one be sure and get a cover. There are some expensive covers and some cheaper ones so check. If you get one I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Do something for yourself for a change.

Wow - I'm going to look into this Kindle thing. I've heard so much about it. As usual, my problem is "Great, just one more thing I need to learn how to program." But it sure sounds convenient to use.

My Bob would love this. He reads all the time. I like to read but I am a slow reader. I may read a book every two months. He reads at least one a week. I am too busy running around doing all kinds of other things and it is getting spring here and the yard sales will be starting. I have to go to those. We are thinking of getting a booth at a local Peddlers Mall here. I know they are great for avid readers and may look into getting one for him. Thanks for the info.

Just saw your blog. Very cool. Not sure if you or your readers would be interested in this but you can win a Kindle2 at www.helpusnameus.com The company is giving away one to whoever gives them the best new company name. Pretty cool.

Again cool blog. I've got to get one.
